Student Leadership Experience. I went for the camp. And i came back today. I wanted to stay, but can't. Yesterday, i learnt many things about leadership, though it is only one day. I thank God for that one day, coz it allows me to learn about servant leadership, which is what this camp is about.
We played games in Toh Tuck Campus first, which is ice-breaker games. We played this game, which in a way, allows you to discover how good is your communication skills. And i come to realise this, that i can get my message across well, but only that i need more clarity in my speech. Another thing that i've learnt, and that is in order to lead well, one has got to communicate well with your members.
When we reached Dairy Farm, we checked into the bunk. The bunk is not really that awesome, though it is double story, like a normal apartments that you see. we have to sleep on wooden floor, and worst, there's no air con. haha. though i dont sleep in air condition environment, it is too warm. the fan is not working that well, and it is not rotating, but i'm juz sleeping right where the fan is blowing. haha...anyway, a leader has got to learn how to go through sufferings as well, so that they will come to a point whereby when their members go through the same thing, they will be able to relate to it, and think of solutions as well.
Next, we played games and such. Though my group is the smallest group, with only 6 people, i feel proud of my group. we have team spirit, in a way. the first game we play is the rope thing. other groups think that it is impossible to tie a knot and complete the games. my group juz any-o-how try first. then i realised that this will not work, so i ask them to stop. and i slowly think, and i came out with a solution. everyone followed it, and together with the help of the other members, we managed to tie a knot! and after that, we have another challenge, that is tie a double knot from the start. and we did it again! whee...how great can it be...and through this, i learnt that a leader must have foresight, and not give up easily, like the other groups.
bt the first lesson that we learnt at Dairy Farm, the first activity, is this: to ask questions. all we did is follow, but nobody asked where we are going. and nobody bothers...so we learnt a lesson through this. a leader leads, not follows. and for a follower, it is not easy also. because if you follow and dont know where you are going, and when you reached at a destination that ou are not supposed to be at, you will have to take time to go back and start again, or find an alternative. this is a great lesson for me, and though i didn't state why this is so over here, i myself know why.
today, i got airway prob. and the best part of it is, i suffer from giddiness, numbness and such. and at this point in time, i thought i will be gone. bt thank God, i'm still here. and another thing to comment, is that the teachers are very very very very caring. 2 teachers use magazines to fan me, one instructor keep checking my pulse rate, and its super high. and 3 teachers massage me. oh well. its great, but i missed not going for camp fire. then, 2 toh tuck teachers, sent me to the clinic. one drives, and they took great pains to find a Raffles Medical Group. because they have my records there. so they couldn't find one around, so they kept driving, and they reached this expressway to Johore. and they are like saying, why not we go there now? haah...bt well, he took the wrong turn, and he drove all the way back...back to Lot 1. and they bring me to the clinic, and the doctor gave me oxygen for me to breathe in, with medicine inside. Whoa! thats great. i felt so much better after that. no medicine and such to consume. so that's great. and my teachers sent me home. and they dont know the way, they look at street directory.haha...i was like..about to laugh, but can't. then my group leader was beside me, encouraging me. Wow. Thats good, coz well, i'm from Bartley Campus, they are from Toh Tuck. and btw, who said that Toh Tuck people are very unfriendly? they are not. they are good people. juz like the teachers who sent me home, i dont know them, but the female pe teacher know me. i wonder why. she knows my name when she walk to the teacher's lounge when no one told her that. she juz pass by, bt she helps me all the way though. thats great. bt strange, only one bartley teacher that i saw. Mr Raj. haha...
they always tell me this, "Jiali, there's one thing that you need to change, and that is to stop helping people all the time. Yes, its good, but in a way, you aren't looking after yourself well enough." hmm...maybe i should stop it, and if they didn't tell me this, i wouldnt knw. and thats actually quite true, i didn't really look after myself that much, and all this while i have been helping people, but in the end, people always bully me, or make use of me. nobody helps me when i needed it.
Probably, im gullible. or that, i choose to be gullible at times.
I want to go back to camp. They laughed at me. Everytime. Never once she didnt.
