One of the 7 deadly sins is that of PRIDE, PRIDE, PRIDE, PRIDE, PRIDE (everyone has it, but it depends on how we handle it)
According to the dictionary, pride has a few meanings:
Proverbs 3:34(NIV)
"He mocks proud mockers but gives grace to the humble."
Stuff of tragedy: Overweening pride, arrogance, haughtiness
Stuff of comedy: Vanity, fussiness, delicacy
These are all forms of self-delusion. Pride and vanity refuse the truth about who we are and substitute illusions for reality.
Whenever we hears or is being preached about pride, we tend to point finger at others, rather than looking at ourself for the change that we can make in our life.
The best pride detector is this, "How much are we bothered by the pride of others?" When people attacked us in this area, would your response be "other people are worse?"
Some may react to this by thinking that this is not an important area or factor in our life. Well, it is stated in the bible, and was mentioned first.
Proverbs 6:16-19
These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.
According to the dictionary, pride has a few meanings:
- a sense of one's own proper dignity or value
- pleasure or sastisfaction taken in acheivement, possession or association
- arrogant or disdant conduct or treatment, haughtiness
- an excessively high opinion of oneself, conceit

- The first requirement of pride is spiritual blindness.
- A second requirement of pride is that each challenge to our pride drives us harder to improve our illusion of productivity, sanctity or compassion.
- A strong indicator of pride is competitiveness. There is nothing wrong with playing to win, provided the joy is in the playing. If our happiness depends on defeating others and seeing them failing as an individual, we are building a world of illusion.
- At death, all illusions are stripped away. God's judgment will not take into account our bank balance, how much we own, how smart we are or how much self-esteem we have. All that will matter is whether He recognizes us (Matthew 25:12).
